In order to promote digital teaching and active learning in our new Bachelor of Science programme in architectural engineering, a Spearhead grant was awarded to introduce mixed reality (XR) in our studio teaching.
XR Studio was ran in two first-year studios (first and second semester), and a second year studio (fourth semester). In each of the studios the technology addressed different needs. We have seen that students, especially in the first year, often struggle with the translation between 2D drawings and 3D objects and space. We addressed this by working with the Oculus Quest 2 to assess extruded plan drawings in 3D with apps like Spatial, Gravity Sketch, and Arkio.
